2009 - 2010 School Year Information

Dear Parents, or Guardians,

     The [accompanying sheets] links below give the schedules and informational notes for the Schools of Religion conducted by Saint Ursula Parish for our students attending public schools.

Elementary - Kindergarten thru Grade 5 - Sunday Morning - 8:45 to 10:30 PM

Confirmation - Grades 6, 7, and 8 - Monday Evening - 7:15 - 8:30 PM

     PLEASE NOTE: All of the children in grades K thru 5 are to report to their assigned classrooms on Sunday, September 13, 2008 at 8:45 AM. Class assignments for those who are registered will be posted in the lobby of the school by grade. If they are not registered as of our first Sunday, you can do that with Mrs. Bossong. However, these students will not be assigned to a room until the following Sunday.
     Parents, please note the change that will take place during our opening session. All the students report to their classrooms at 8:45 AM. During this time, they will meet their teachers and prepare for the work ahead of them this year. Then, they and their teachers will go to the cafeteria for Mass. After Mass, they will return to their classrooms for dismissal at 10:30 AM.

     Since we have our students only one day per week, we must rely on you, the parents, to foster what is taught in the classroom. We need your cooperation to help them understand and apply what they have learned. Please see that they are here no later than 8:40 AM because Mass will begin promptly at 8:45 AM. This 8:45 starting time is very important.
     To accomplish the most from our class time, we need two vital components:
ATTENDANCE AND PROPER BEHAVIOR. Therefore, the following will take place for the 2009 - 2010 school year:

  1. Report cards will be issued three times during the year. This will enable you to know how they are progressing in their classwork, behavior, and homework assignments.
  2. Attendance at C.C.D. classes will be enforced. We will no longer automatically pass everyone to the next level. Anyone missing 1/3 or more of our scheduled classes will not move to the next level unless the missed work is made up to the satisfaction of the teacher and Mrs. Bossong.
Special note for parents of students in First and Second Grades: The first reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist takes place during the second year of religious instruction. No child can be accepted for the Sacramental Preparation Grade 2 who has not completed satisfactorily the first year of religious instruction.
     Please [use the enclosed] print the linked registration forms. Fill in the requested information and return to the parish office by mail or by placing it in the collection basket no later than Sunday, August 16, 2008. All registrations must be completed by Sunday, August 23rd in order for class assignments to be made.
     The registration and book fee for the year 2009-2010 will be $50.00 for the first child, $50.00 for the second child, and a limit of $120.00 per family with 3 or more students. This fee should accompany the registration form. If a family would like to make payments over some convenient period, or if a family would like to discuss the possibility of a full or partial scholarship, please contact Mrs. Bossong by August 20st at 412-486-3374.

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. This year, class assignments will be randomly made regardless of school, friends, or teacher requests.
  2. If cancellation of any class becomes necessary because of weather, etc., please listen to KDKA and WPIX radio and television stations. These will be the stations contacted for any emergency situation.
