Mission Statement - We, the parish community of St. Ursula, guided by the Holy Spirit, are called to continue the mission of Jesus Christ. We dedicate ourselves to the fulfillment of this mission by committing to use our varied and abundant gifts to serve the Lord and one another through worship, faith formation, and education. Centered in Christ, nurtured by the Eucharist, our covenant is to extend Christ's peace and compassion to all.

             THE SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND
5/19/20 WILL BE FOR CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES
The proceeds from this single collection will be divided among four causes:

A. The Catholic Relief Services Collection is an important opportunity to express Christian compassion and generosity. The collection theme, Jesus in Disquise, reminds us of the presence of Christ in every one of our brothers and sisters in need. Funding from this collection provides the foundation of support for the work of six major Catholic agencies working on international relief and development, immigration services and resettlement, advocacy for the poor, peace, reconciliation and justice.
B. The Collections to Aid the Church in Central and Eastern Europe promotes and supports the pastoral work of the church in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe tarnished by generations of religious persecution before the fall of Communism. Proceeds from this collection go directly to support seminaries, social service programs, youth ministry, pastoral centers, church restoration and the spreading of the Gospel message through the mass media.
C. The Collection for the Church in Latin America goes directly to support the work of pastoral projects in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. By contributing to this fund we are actively participating in the work of solidarity with our brothers and sisters throughout the American hemisphere.
D. The Collection for the Church in Africa, the fastest growing part of the Universal Church, assists most vulnerable members of our family faith. The Church in Africa faces tremendous challenges including the preva- lence of HIV/AIDS, war-torn countries, extreme poverty and rapid population growth.

CHRISTIAN MOTHERS -- Please join us on May 17th, 2012 at 7:30 pm in Church for Mass. Following Mass, we will meet in the school for a social and installation of new members.

THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT -- We have a unique episode in the Acts of the Apostles today. A whole roomful of people are baptized with the Holy Spirit before they are baptized with water! The verb used--"the Holy Spirit 'fell' on them" (Acts 10:44)--is characteristic of the way the Spirit works throughout the book of Acts: powerful and surprising. Though this "baptism" is not the normative way the New Testament describes baptism, it is still a good reminder today that the Holy Spirit is not controlled by whether or not we pour water, but rather that our sacramental signs reveal the presence of the Spirit at work among us. And we have a double reinforcement of how this work is accomplished from a Letter and a Gospel bearing John's name. It is love, self-sacrificing and self-giving love, that manifests the Spirit of Jesus in our midst. It is love that is the greatest of commandments. The Spirit is manifested equally through those who live in that love.                     Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
